What is Respite Care?

Respite care refers to a commitment-free, temporary stay in a Senior Retirement Community. This usually is in an Assisted Living or Memory Care apartment.  Residents joining us at Countryside Respite Care in Jackson, Michigan for a respite stay enjoy the benefits of nursing oversight, medication management, fine dining, daily social activities and 24-hour caregiver response.  All of this comes without the stress of contracts, down payments, or a rush to make a move from their home.

At John Ganton’s Countryside in Jackson, we understand that seniors and their families may find themselves in an unexpected or urgent situation. This can be relieved by joining us at Countryside ManorCountryside Grand or Brightside Assisted Memory Care.

When to Consider a Respite Stay?

Sometimes after an illness or hospitalization, insurance benefits are not accessible for a short stay in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.  Instead, the choice of a respite stay at Countryside allows a resident to grow in health, strength, and independence before returning home.  Our guests frequently choose to receive home care nursing and therapy in the privacy of their spacious apartment. They then fill the rest of their days with social events, card games, and satisfying homemade meals available from 7 am to 7 pm.

Frequently, seniors will join us for a vacation at Countryside while their families are away on business or pleasure.  We have thought of everything! With laundry and linen service, housekeeping, bathing assistance, and even wheelchair service. Families relax knowing their loved ones are safe and enjoying themselves.  It is not uncommon to have seasonal respite visitors too.  Avoiding the shoveling and dangerous driving in our Michigan winters is music to the ears of many Jackson residents.

Sometimes seniors are considering a permanent move to assisted living but want the first-hand experience before they confidently say, “Yes!” to our convenient way of life.  A respite stay gives the resident a perfect opportunity to experience the fun and freedom of life in the GrandManor or Brightside Memory Care, all at an affordable daily rate.  Just a warning though…it doesn’t take long before our respite visitors are ready to make Countryside their new home.
